Marist Senior Named Posse Scholar

Marist High School is proud to announce senior Gervhona Lemon has received the prestigious Posse Scholarship. She will attend DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., next fall on a full scholarship and will major in biochemistry as part of a pre-med program.

Lemon (Auburn Gresham) is a graduate of Turner-Drew Language Academy and was connected to the Posse Foundation through the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund. The application process started in the summer of 2019 with a written submission. Three rounds of interviews followed, and Lemon was notified of her award in late December 2019. Applicants select the top five schools from the list of Posse partners and the foundation then matches recipients to the school that best meets their interests and abilities.

Students Raise Money While Raising Awareness of Domestic Violence

Last month, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month, St. Rita students participated in several activities to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence.

Students held a spirit day to benefit A New Direction Beverly Morgan Park (AND), a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides education, legal advocacy and counseling to adult and child victims of domestic violence. Those students who made a donation were allowed to dress in spirit attire for the day. AND President, Jessica McCarihan, recently visited St. Rita, where she was presented with a check from students in Mr. Baffoe’s Honors 1 English class.
